What is METACOM 9 Desktop?
METACOM 9 Desktop is a program package for creating AAC materials, consisting of the METACOM 9 symbol collection (about 17 000 symbols) and the companion program MetaSearch.
What does the addition "Desktop" mean?
Earlier versions of the program package were named like the respective version of the symbol collection: "METACOM 7" or "METACOM 8" - without the addition "Desktop".
Since the symbol collection is also offered without MetaSearch for other purposes, e.g. manufacturers of various communication apps and devices have integrated the METACOM symbols or offer them as an additional purchase, confusion occasionally arose. This is to be avoided in the future by the addition of "Desktop".
The addition "Desktop" indicates that this is the program package for computers/laptops (also referred to as desktop computers), which includes more than just the symbol collection.
And what is MetaSearch?
MetaSearch is a part of METACOM 9 Desktop. It is a program for searching and viewing the METACOM symbol collection, customizing METACOM symbols, and creating materials with the symbols.
MetaSearch has been included since version METACOM 7. The range of functions differs from version to version. The current version is 9.
